About
The Art of Jewelry began when I was a child and became fascinated with jewelry. It was many years and many other careers before I was able to establish my passion for jewelry design as a business on the Internet.
When I met Kenneth Jay Lane and saw his unbelievable designs and creative genius, I knew I wanted to make his wonderful pieces available to everyone! Now, after 12 years, The Art of Jewelry is a recognized and popular source for KJL’s Couture jewelry.
My business began 23 years ago in a tiny jewelry design boutique in Boston’s historic Back Bay neighborhood. At the time, no one else in Boston was selling loose beads. I decided if they didn’t sell, I would keep them for myself. (They all sold. I remember a busload of boy scouts crowding into my tiny shop wanting to make leather cord necklaces. What a riot!) In the early 1990s I published my first full-color bead catalog. I soon realized that our now larger audience of jewelry designers was hungry for more information and learning about beads and jewelry.
Back then, I accepted customers’ jewelry on consignment and sold many wonderful vintage pieces, among them early Kenneth Jay Lane pins, earclips, and bracelets. These won a devoted clientele and always sold quickly. Other designers work such as Coro, Eisenberg (my Mom’s favorite), Trifari, Coventry, Haskell, didn’t sell so well, although I am sure Miriam Haskell jewelry would have sold immediately. Unfortunately, her company is not producing jewelry of the quality and originality since the founder has retired.
Although my pioneering little shop closed many years ago, I found a wider international audience for Kenneth Jay Lane Couture thanks to the Internet. The Art of Jewelry featuring Kenneth Jay Lane is known for honesty, integrity, and high quality of KJL’s fantasy and classic fashion jewelry offered. Over the years The Art of Jewelry has built the Internet’s largest display of Kenneth Jay Lane Couture rings, bracelets, necklaces, pins, and earrings, as well as a trove of details about KJL’s life and the history of the fashion jewelry industry.
